Description:
99 Names of Allah, in square kufic calligraphy. The composition encompasses three type of Islamic arts: sacred geometry, illumination, and calligraphy. The kufic calligraphy is set on a track of 7 squares, symbolizing the 7 heavens and the 7 tawaf around the Kaaba. The Names start from the bottom right corner and rotate clockwise around the center. The design gives a visual illusion of movement, while the bold name of Allah in the center represents the Kaaba.
The calligraphy is set within another dynamic square, making an eight-pointed star, which has its own historic importance within Islamic arts and science. While the iconography of the eight-pointed star has its roots in early astronomy, it is also called khatim, Seal of the Prophets, Rub el Hizb or star of the ‘Breath of the Compassionate’ pattern.
